Saturday's Morning Bike Ride (push/walk/sufferfest)

So the lovely weatherman said we could see some light accumulation not exceeding 1-2" of snow overnight.  I was so excited because I knew the cold had compacted the trail and I would be able to get some good distance on it this morning before heading off to basketball for the day.

On my day off I set the alarm for 5:00am and played lazy and didn't get up until 6:00am and leave the house around 6:30 but it was my day off.

I got nervous as soon as I hit the driveway - there was a lot more than 1-2" of snow and I had 1-2' (feet) of drifts in some spots.  The initial part of my snowmobile trail ride is on open meadow and blowing snow = hard walking!

There is not a trail there and that meant a lot of walking/pushing to make forward progress possible.  I played around with the tire pressure and made some headway but not the kind I was hoping for.

She is still looking pretty isn't she?  Some snowmobiles came around after I had made my half way point - 1 hour to cover 3.5 miles - that is just sad isn't it!  I could have run faster than that!

Mukluk tire track - which way did I come from?  This was in the easy part of the trail once I got into the wood cover the snow was not as deep or as difficult to stay upright!

This is why I do what I do - I love winter time and even though I was not a happy camper walking my bike today - when I reflect back I realize that I chose to do this type of riding and I have a set of rollers if I really wanted to ride my bike and not play in the snow.

I attempted to post hole run and at this point I was crossing a creek and sunk down to my hips in snow.  Took a minute to get out of this predicament!  Makes a man stronger right?

Have a great weekend and get outside and burn some calories!

  1. It's all so awesome. And now we are outdoors with the FatTires instead of on indoor trainers. You a got a great work out today. Snow Mobiles become our friends and pack a trail for us. :-)
